SoCal NOMA NOMAS Lecture Series: ELAC Presents Susan Nwankpa Gillespie
May 1, 2021 6:00 PM
Susan Nwankpa Gillespie, founder of Nwankpa Design, is a Nigerian-American architect and interior designer based in Southern California. Her eclectic background informs her layered approach to design, enabling her to blend functional details with ideas that surprise and delight. Born to a Nigerian father and mother with French-Canadian roots, Susan grew up in the mid-West and moved to New York to study and begin her professional career before attending graduate school in Los Angeles where she has worked ever since. Her time as an artist, activist, materials librarian, and qualitative researcher – often in parallel with her design work – continues to enrich her process, allowing her to better guide her clients and elevate their collective effort.
SoCal NOMAS 2021 Spring Lecture Series
As a collective effort of raising the voices of Black Indigenous People of Color, @socalnoma student chapters have prepared a series of lectures across the 9 participating Schools of Architecture that highlights and celebrates the work and achievements of designers of color. We invite respected guests and NOMAS members across SoCal to these talks. Together we hope to inspire and empower, to continue to be voices of the future of architecture. ELAC NOMAS presents the tenth and final lecture in the series on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 6:00pm PDT. The NOMAS family would love to see you there!
