The Altadena Rebuild Coalition, led by the Southern California Chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects (SOCAL NOMA), has launched to address the critical rebuilding efforts required after the devastating Eaton Fire of 2025. This coalition, comprised of Minority Organizations and professionals from the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industries, is committed to assisting Altadena’s historic Black community as they recover, rebuild, and preserve their cultural legacy.
Altadena holds a unique place in Southern California’s history as a sanctuary for African Americans fleeing systemic racism and the harsh realities of the Jim Crow South during the early 20th century. Over generations, Altadena has flourished into a vibrant community, renowned for its artistic, cultural, and entrepreneurial contributions. However, the recent wildfires have ravaged thousands of acres, including significant portions of this historic community. Many families, businesses, and landmarks tied to Altadena’s Black heritage have been directly impacted.
The Altadena Rebuild Coalition was formed to ensure this community’s recovery is prioritized, its historical significance recognized, and its voices heard.
